Around 15,000 early ballots are yet to be counted from Tuesday's (Nov. 3) election in Tucson, which could have an impact on close races. County election officials say they intend to resume the counting on Thursday.

The outstanding ballots could impact the results of the Ward 3 city council race in which incumbent Democrat Karin Uhlich holds a 444-vote lead over Republican Ben Buehler-Garcia and the Ward 6 race in which Republican challenger Steve Kozachik is leading incumbent Democrat Nina Trasoff by 1,332 votes. That is as of results released as of 1:43 p.m. Wednesday.

One other city-wide issue that remains close is Proposition 400, a non-controversial technical  measure regarding how revenues are spent was being defeated by 745 votes.

The continued counting was not expected to impact a safe lead by Richard Fimbres, a Democrat, seeking the Ward 5 seat being vacated by Steve Leal or Proposition 200, the Public Safety First Initiative that was being rejected by more than 70 percent of the votes reported so far.

Two propositions in the Amphitheater Public Schools District were close enough they could also be affected by the ballots remaining to be counted. A request to continue an operations budget override was being defeated by 194 votes and a capital overide was being defeated by 543 votes.
