Paul Breiterman was promoted to assistant vice president, Business Lending and Services for Vantage West Credit Union. This is his second promotion since joining Vantage West Credit Union in 2005. Prior to joining the credit union, Breiterman was employed by Paychex.

Susan Rodriguez joined Cadden Community Management as the director of finance. She will head the finance operations of the 200 plus Community Associations CCM manages throughout Southern Arizona and Mexico.
Dr. Jonathan Daniel joined the University of Arizona Department of Surgery as assistant professor of surgery. Daniel is a thoracic surgeon specializing in benign and cancerous diseases of the lung and esophagus. He comes to the UA College of Medicine from Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. Daniel’s research interests include nanotechnology applications for the treatment of lung cancer.
Awards, honors, and recognitions
Marie Chisholm-Burns, head of the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy, has been awarded a grant from the National Institutes of Health of more than $1 million to study the effects of pharmacists’ involvement in renal transplant patients’ drug therapy. The NIH Research Project Grant, known as an R01, will allow Dr. Chisholm-Burns and her team to see if pharmacists working more directly with transplant patients will help the patients stay on medication regimens designed to decrease their rejection of transplanted kidneys.
Rick Unklesbay, chief trial counsel, homicide/cold case unit for Pima County has been inducted as a fellow into the American College of Trial Lawyers. Unklesbay has been in the criminal division with the Pima County Attorney’s office for nearly 30 years.
Rick Vaughan, senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Metropolitan Tucson Convention and Visitors Bureau, earned the designation of Certified Destination Management Executive from Destination Marketing Association International. The certification is recognized as the highest educational achievement by the destination marketing industry. Vaughan has more than 35 years of experience in the tourism industry. He’s served in his current role with the MTCVB for the last 10 years.
Kim Lax, the director of operations for Cadden Community Management, was named the Manager of the Year by the Arizona Association of Community Managers. Her main focus is the education of not only the employees in the company but the education of Board members and homeowners.
Melissa Wells, WSS IHD Agent with Afni Inc., was awarded one of six International Customer Service Association’s, Customer Service Professional of the Year Award. Afni put Well’s name forward in recognition of her exceptional customer service to its customers.
Steve Newmark has been selected for membership in Arizona’s Finest Lawyers. Arizona’s Finest Lawyers is a website directory for the public of top Arizona lawyers selected by their peers. Newmark is a certified tax specialist with extensive experience in state and local taxation, estate planning and probate.
Kirstin Block, founder and owner of Buffalo Exchange, won the Thomas R. Brown Excellence in Entrepreneurship Award. The award is given in recognition of the recipient’s commitment and contributions to entrepreneurial growth and excellence. The award will be given Thursday, Nov. 5 at IdeaFunding 2009.
Connor Lundy, a fourth-year UA medical Student received the Nehal Shah Memorial Global Health Award which enables her to travel to Tanzania and work at a medical mission. The endowment award was named after Nehal Shah who died May 4 in Phoenix, 11 days before she would have received her medical degree. Shortly after her death her classmates started a memorial fund in her name.
