A new event called Tucson After Dark takes place Friday (Oct. 9) at the Fox Tucson Theatre as part of the  Tucson Meet Yourself festival, which runs downtown Oct. 9-11.

The After Dark event is described as an international cocktail party featuring the Caipirinha from Brazil, Guaro Sour from Costa Rica, Pisco Sour from Peru, Pimm’s Cup from England, Greek Matter Scatter with Ouzo from Greece, Singapore Sling from Singapore, Mojito from the Bahamas and the Kir Normand from France.

For the $35 ticket price, guests receive samplings of each of the eight cocktails while enjoying live cultural entertainment. Once you pick your favorite drink you can go back for a full cocktail served in a commemorative glass. Desserts and coffee will also be served.

Tucson After Dark runs from 8 p.m. to midnight and tickets can be purchased online through the Tucson Meet Yourself website — www.tucsonmeetyourself.org — where you can also find more information about the weekend’s other events.

Tucson After Dark is another example of a good thing happening in downtown Tucson.

‘Signature’ style Oktoberfest

If your idea of Oktoberfest is a little more refined than a brat and brew, you may want to check out the Oktoberfest dinner at the Signature Grill in the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort and Spa. The five-course dinner features traditional Oktoberfest fare paired with German beers.

A menu item that caught my eye is a potato pancake with apple chutney, crème fraiche and snipped chives paired with Hofbrau Lager. There’s also an a seared duck breast with spatzel, white asparagus and lingonberry compote served with Spaten Oktoberfest. And a German dinner wouldn’t be complete without Marjari black forest cherry truffle tort with Bavarian cream for dessert.

The dinner is $55 per person and reservations are recommended.
