Bellal Joseph is the new assistant professor of surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Arizona in the Section of Trauma, Critical Care and Emergency Surgery. Dr. Joseph’s clinical and research interests are emergency general surgery, penetrating trauma, international trauma, quality and process improvement, and long-term clinical and functional outcomes after trauma, including how tight blood sugar control in trauma patients improves perioperative outcomes.
CB Richard Ellis hired Bruce Baier to lead its valuation and advisory services group. Baier ran Baier Appraisal Services for 32 years in Glenwood Springs, Colo. In 2006, Baier closed his business and moved to Tucson, joining a local appraisal firm, Baker, Peterson, Baker & Associates, where he was a consultant and staff appraiser. Earlier this year, Baier returned to private practice, where he continued to perform all aspects of valuation analysis, until joining CBRE this month.

Krista Ziemba of LRD Architects passed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design exam by the U.S. Green Building Council and is now a LEED Accredited Professional.
Kevin Stahler of Jerome E. McGetrick & Associates, Electrical Engineers passed the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED exam and is now a LEED Accredited Professional.
John Wise of Stantec is now a Certified Floodplain Manager through the Association of State Floodplain Managers. Certification is awarded to individuals who pass an ASFPM exam demonstrating their knowledge of national standards and programs of floodplain management.
Ruth Taylor-Piliae, an assistant professor at the College of Nursing at The University of Arizona, won a competitive grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to study the health effects of tai chi in stroke survivors. Dr. Taylor-Piliae is one of just 15 nurse educators from around the country to receive the three-year $350,000 “Nurse Faculty Scholar” award this year. It is given to junior faculty who show outstanding promise as future leaders in academic nursing.
Appointments
William Magnotto is the new executive director of La Frontera Housing Inc which oversees a HUD Section 811 apartment complex. Magnotto has been with the agency for eight years and most recently served as Director of Housing.
Mutual of Omaha Bank appointed two new officers in its Tucson offices: Grace Duval and Diane Stallings. Duval was appointed Market Leader for Tucson and Stallings was named Relationship Manager. Duval brings more than 30 years of experience to Mutual of Omaha Bank, most recently serving as the premier market manager for Bank of America in Tucson. She is also actively involved in the community, where she has served as a volunteer campaign coordinator for the United Way for the past 20 years. Prior to joining Mutual of Omaha Bank, Stallings spent more than 30 years at Bank of America, most recently serving as a Premier Client Manager in the bank’s Tucson market.
Carondelet Health Network appointed Anthony R. Fonze as its chief information officer.Fonze will oversee all of the hospital system’s efforts with regards to information technologies.
Elections
Linda Wojtowicz, vice president and chief nursing executive at Tucson Medical Center, has been elected as the 2010 president of the Tucson American Heart Association Board of Directors. Brian Sonnleitner, senior vice president private banker at bbva Compass Bank will serve as the 2010 president-elect. The Heart Association is a volunteer non-profit organization that raises money for education and research to improve cardiovascular health free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
