Amy Bass, program coordinator for Compass Behavioral Health Care’s Community Prevention Coalition, was recognized as a Community Champion by Mothers Against Drunk Driving Southern Arizona. Under Bass’ leadership, the CPC has grown to become a collaborative of over 40 agencies and individuals from diverse sectors of the community.
At its annual meeting, the Arizona Pharmacy Alliance honored members and pharmacists who made significant contributions to the pharmacy profession during the past year. Among them, Bill Jones with the department of Veterans Affairs was inducted into the Arizona Pharmacy Allianve Hall of Fame for being an Arizona pharmacy pioneer. Albert Leal of the Medication Management Center at the University of Arizona, College of Pharmacy, received the AzPA Pharmacy Technician of the Year Award for excellence and professionalism. Sandra Leal, Pharm.D. with El Rio Health Center, received the Pharmacist of the Year Award.

Several individuals were recognized with a Pharmacy Appreciation Award honoring those who have demonstrated very special or unique interest and concern for the advancement of Arizona pharmacy. Receiving these awards were: Arthur Martinez, El Rio Health Center; Kristen Allison, Southern Arizona VA Healthcare; and Richard Herrier, the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy.
Several community members have been selected as outstanding community philanthropists, by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Southern Arizona Chapter. Michael and Beth Kasser have been named the Outstanding Philanthropists of the year by the organization. The Kassers have provided financial support to a wide variety of nonprofit organizations, as well as sponsorships of many community athletic events. Sue Sirkus has been named the Outstanding Fundraising Professional for the year. She is known for her expertise in capital campaigns, board development, major gifts, planned giving and endowment programs. These awards as well as corporate awards will be given Nov. 10 at the Westin La Paloma.
Promotions
Mary Jo Silcox is the new interim CEO of Compass Behavioral Health Care. She joined Compass in 2006 and prior to this move she was the vice president of clinical and detoxification services. She has more than 17 years of experience in all aspects of behavioral health care.
Elections
The Innovative Technologies Development Center Inc. has three new board members. Those elected are: Regina Murphy-Darling, Robert Peizer and Don Watson. The nonprofit is dedicated to using local skills and talents to create new industries and jobs for Arizona through public/private/educational partnerships.
The Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross added Richard A. Mendez and Sal Picerno to its Board of Directors. Piscerno is a Broker who has worked in Commercial Real Estate for over 40 years, in New York City, Scottsdale, Phoenix, and Tucson. Mendez is the director of Facility Services and Real Estate for Raytheon Missile Systems.
The Tucson Chapter of the National Association of Insurance and financial Advisors Federation elected new executive officers and members of the board of directors. Executive officers elected are: Carl Hessel , president; Ralph Thomas Eiff, president elect and membership chair; Hank J. Dellago, secretary and treasurer; and Chad Scheider, past president. Directors elected to the board include: Michael A. Sandoval, Allen G. Ekman, Tom Forsyyhe, Seth Krasne, Connie Jo McAdams, Randy Rasnake and Chastity Vaughan.
New Launches
Orthopedic Surgeon Kimberly Tucker joined the medical staff of Oro Valley Hospital and Northwest Medical Center. She focuses on hip and knee arthritis and hip and knee replacement, including complex hip and knee replacement revision surgery. Her medical practice is located at 1521 E.
