More than 30 Tucson area restaurants are participating in the second annual Arizona Restaurant Week, which starts Sept. 19. This is an eight day culinary event in which participating restaurants are offering guests a three-course dinner menu of their signature dishes, all priced a $29 per person excluding drinks, tax and gratuity.   

The event, which goes through Sept. 26, is sponsored by the Arizona Restaurant Association and has more than 125  restaurants participating statewide.

Ventana wine sale

If you’re a foodie, by now, you’ve probably heard the Ventana Room at Loews Ventana Canyon Resort won’t be reopening this month after all. The restaurant, which has enjoyed a five-diamond rating from AAA for the past three years, apparently fell victim to an economy and people’s lifestyle changes that are looking for more casual settings.

To wrap things up, the Ventana Room will hold a wine sale from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. Oct. 2. Call the resort, at (520) 299-2020, for details.

Beer on Wednesday

Elle is officially named Elle Wine Country Restaurant but they’re mixing it up this week hosting a beer and hors d’ouevres pairing party.

Hand crafted brews from Left Hand Brewing in Longmont, Colo., will be matched up with creations by chef/owner Jeff Fuld. Among the pairings are a Haystack Wheat with roasted poblano and corn empanadas, Deep Cover Brown Ale with smoked duck and porcini mushroom risotto croquettes and a Milk Stout float with cinnamon gelato.

The event will be from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 16) and, if the weather cooperates it will be outdoors in the Broadway Village center. Reservations are required.

Wine on Thursday

And on Thursday (Sept. 17) the Signature Grill at the JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa is holding a wine dinner featuring Rhone style wines from California paired with a five-course dinner. Wineries including Cline, Fess Parker and Justin will be represented along with the culinary creations by Chef de Cuisine Kevin Mikkelson.

The dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. and the cost is $55 per person. Again, you should make reservations.
